St. Dominic Savio - Patron of Green house

» “I can’t do big things, but I want everything to be for the glory of God”.

St. Dominic Savio was born on 2nd April 1842, in the province of Turin in Northern Italy. At the age of four onwards, by self effort he began to pray in silence and solitude. He used to help his parents at home in whatever way possible and he raised their spirits by telling that the Good Lord will reward them for all their hard labour, care and concern. He wanted to become a saintly priest to save souls for God. He often said, “If I don’t become a saint, I am doing nothing”. Motivated by his intense desire to please God, he joined the Oratory conducted by St. Don Bosco. There too, he earned the love and admiration of all by his heroic virtues. Humble and respectful towards all, he had a natural gift for settling arguments and quarrels among his peer group boys. For risking himself to help others, he justified himself saying that, “If I can succeed in saving only a single soul, I can be sure that, my own will be saved”. On one occasion, he exclaimed, “I am not afraid of death because at each and every instant, I am trying to do only what is pleasing to God.” He died on march 9, 1857, at the age of 15. Dominic Savio was canonized a saint on June 12, 1954, by Pope Pius XII.
